Fang Shiming
Fang Shiming (1977-), male, native of Taihu, Anhui Province, PhD, professor, doctoral supervisor. He was admitted to the science base class of geology of China University of Geosciences in 1995, and received a master’s degree in 2002 and a doctorate in 2005. From October 2005 to October 2007, he was engaged in postdoctoral research in the post-doctoral programme in environmental science and engineering of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan). From June 2009 to September 2009, he had been visiting the Department of Geography and Resources Management of the Chinese University of Hong Kong for three months. From August 2013 to August 2014, he had been visiting the School of Natural Resources of North Carolina State University for one year. He was promoted to Professor in December 2012. In 2017, he was selected as UNESCO World Geopark assessment expert and senior research specialist of UNESCO “World Heritage and Sustainable Tourism” pilot project in China.
At present, he is mainly engaged in the teaching and research in the fields of land use planning, Geopark declaration and planning, natural resource utilization and planning, urban green space and spatial layout. He has published more than 60 academic papers, presided over one program supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and more than 20 other projects, compiled 2 monographs as chief editor and 4 monographs as co-editor. He had been a guest of “Geology of China” of CCTV and “Anhui People All over the World” of AHTV for four episodes, and was interviewed by Global Times, Wenhui Daily, The Chinese Newspaper of Land and Resources, China Tourism News, and Qingdao City News, etc. He has successively won a First Prize of the Seventh Teaching Achievement Award for Colleges and Universities in Hubei Province, a Second-class Award for Progress in Science and Technology of Hubei Province and one Second-class Award for Progress in Science and Technology of Henan Province. In 2012, he was selected into the New Century High-level Talents Project of Hubei Province and “Cradle Program” of China University of Geology.
