Notice of 2021 Academic Annual Session of Development Geography

(1st Round)

2021 is the first year of the "14th Five-Year Plan", and it is also the key year to start a new journey of building a socialist modernized country in an all-round way. How to further optimize the pattern of land space development and protection, accelerate innovation-driven development, and achieve coordinated development, building the new development advantages in an all-round way has become a frontier field and hot topic in current research of geography, management and economics, and the development geography has met with another opportunity for development.

It is a major decision made by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council to establish and supervise the implementation of the national spatial planning system, integrate the main functional area planning, land use planning, urban and rural planning and other spatial planning into a unified national spatial planning, realize the "multi-regulation integration", and strengthen the guiding and restraining role of national spatial planning for various special plans. It is of great significance to comprehensively improve the modernization level of land space governance system and governance capacity. At the same time, "Proposal of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China for Formulating the 14th-Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development and the Long-term Goals for 2035" suggested to   persevere in innovation-driven development, and build the new development advantages in an all-round way, persist in the core position of innovation in the overall pattern of China's modernization development, cater to the forefront of world science and technology, the main economic battlefield and the major needs of the nation, implement the innovation-driven development strategy in depth, and perfect the national innovation system. This brings along new hope for effectively improving the land space governance and innovation ability, solving the prominent contradictions such as unbalanced urban-rural development and inadequate rural development in China, and realizing high-quality economic and social development. It also provides new opportunities for scholars in related fields to serve the national strategy and deepen the research on the development geography.

In order to accelerate the interdisciplinary research and application practice of geography, management, economics and other disciplines, explore major scientific and practical issues such as China's land space development and protection pattern, the improvement of modernization level of land space governance system and governance capacity, and the innovation-driven development mechanism, the Professional Committee of Development Geography of Chinese Geographical Society is scheduled to hold "2021 Academic Annual Session of Development Geography" at China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) on October 15- 17, 2021. This session will discuss the theory and method of optimal allocation of land space development and protection pattern, the path to establishing land space governance system and improving the modernization level of governance capacity, and analyze industrial policies and their economic effects, concretely optimize the innovation-driven development policy, and provide regulatory policies and scientific paths for implementing the sustainable regional development strategy, improving the regional green development level and accelerating the construction of "Beautiful China".
