The Seminar on the Construction of Undergraduate Major in Land Consolidation Engineering is Held in CUG

In order to improve the education quality of the undergraduate major in land consolidation engineering of our University, the Department of Land Resources Management of the School of Public Administration held a seminar on the construction of the undergraduate major in land consolidation engineering in Conference Room 705 of the teaching building in East Quarter on July 17. Experts in land consolidation industry from Renmin University of China, China Agricultural University, China University of Geosciences (Beijing), China University of Mining and Technology, Northeast Agricultural University, Henan Agricultural University, Huazhong Agricultural University and other well-known domestic universities attended the seminar.

Professor Zhou Xuewu, Secretary of the Party Branch of the Department of Land Resources Management, comprehensively introduced the construction status of the land consolidation undergraduate major in our School from the aspects of professional discipline support, training objectives and curriculum, and academic program. Based on the experiences in construction of land consolidation major in their universities over the years ,Professor Zhang Zhanlu, Department Head of School of Public Administration and Policy, Renmin University of China, Professor Zhou Wei, Dean of School of Land Science and Technology, China University of Geosciences (Beijing), Professor Du Guoming of Northeast Agricultural University, Professor Chen Weiqiang of Henan Agricultural University, Professor Li Hongbo of Huazhong Agricultural University of Professor Hou Huping of China University of Mining and Technology and Associate Professor Wang Jian of China Agricultural University, made speeches and exchanges around the training objectives and construction mode of land consolidation major, and put forward suggestions and opinions on the training program, curriculum system and training objectives. The experts said that the land consolidation major was practical, innovative, exploratory and arduous. It should be necessary to follow the development law of theoretical research and technical practice of land science, and cultivate a team of professionals with excellent technology and a high sense of responsibility, to lay the foundation for the construction of first-class discipline of land science and technology, and provide support for the comprehensive consolidation of mountains, rivers, forests, lakes and grasses in China.

In the 2015 edition of the Dictionary of Occupational Classification of the People’s Republic of China”, it added the occupation of “land consolidation engineering technicians”, which clearly referred to “the engineering technicians engaged in engineering survey, planning, design, monitoring and supervision for land development, consolidation, reclamation”. Under this background, the universities in China have successively set up undergraduate majors in land consolidation engineering. The Ministry of Education has successively approved 8 universities to set up land consolidation engineering major in March 2017 (the first batch) and March 2018 (the second batch). In 2020, CUG was officially approved by the Ministry of Education to set up the major of land consolidation engineering, and began to enroll students nationwide from that year.
