Undergraduate Major for Emergency Management Newly Approved in SPA

Recently, the results of the registration and approval of undergraduate majors in universities in 2020 has been announced by the Ministry of Education, PRC. After declaration, publicity, review and other procedures, the Ministry has registered the undergraduate major of emergency management applied for by SPA.

The outburst of COVID-19 uncovered the weakness of the theoretical research and talent cultivation in emergency management in China. After the epidemic outburst, CUG actively responded to the national demand and asked SPA to carry out the argumentation and preparation for construction of the major of emergency management. In combination with the development characteristics of the major, SPA designated Department of Public Administration to be responsible for the argumentation and preparation for the construction of the major of emergency management. Under the leadership and guidance of SPA, Department of Public Administration persisted in running this major with the disciplinary advantages in public administration, with an open mind, self-confidence and high starting point, successfully accomplished the task assigned by SPA and the undergraduate major of emergency management was registered by the Ministry of Education. The major of emergency management is a new major integrating management, information, engineering and human culture, which is guided by the national strategic demand and the practical application, serves the construction of the national public security system and the great demand of the emergency industry development, aims to improve the student’s ability of emergency management and risk control such as emergency decision-making, risk identification and evaluation, risk communication and emergency pre-warning and emergency disposal based on the ability of public administration.
