Great Achievements in 2020 Annual Student Work Commendation of the University

(Reporter: Li Shuhui) On March 11, our School was awarded the “Advanced Collective for Student Affairs” (only 5 units in the whole University), and Liu Guohua was awarded “Outstanding Student Affairs Counselor” (only 5 persons in the whole university) at 2021 Student Affairs Arrangement Meeting and the 2020 Commendation Meeting for Advanced Collectives and Outstanding Individual in Student Affairs held by the University.

Under the correct leadership of the Party Committee and Administration Office of the School and under the professional guidance of the Student Affairs Office, the Employment and Entrepreneurship Office and the Youth League Committee, the School has been adhering to the student-centered principle throughout the whole work process, to enhance the contribution of student affairs to talent cultivation and improve the integration with the discipline, academic and individual development platform. With the joint efforts of supervisors, head teachers and counselors we have achieved fruitful results in student affairs.

Adhering to moral education and exploring the characteristic ideological and political education. The School has conscientiously studied and implemented the deployment of Party building and ideological and political work of the University, focused on “Three-wide Education”, conscientiously implemented the special program of “Ten Ways of Education” and  “Five Ideological and Political Education”, innovated ideological and political education methods, and established and improved the “6+2” path of students’ ideological and political work and the “Four Plans” of Party building. Combined with important time nodes, the School has made full use of its professional advantages to carry out simulated political practice activities, such as the Two Sessions Forum, approaching famous political figures, and a series of law popularization activities on the National Constitution Day, and its influence is expanding both inside and outside the University. In 2020, the counselors attended the class every day, visited the class every week and held the grade meeting every month, launched a series of activities of “Fighting the Epidemic and Taking on Our Responsibility”, wrote 38 original tweets, revised 22 management systems, including the security commitment letter of practice, paid close attention to the students, and no student was infected and no internet public event happened in the School. They independently hosted the “Four Histories” theme education (Final of Approaching Era Pioneers) for the first time, which was widely recognized by teachers, students and the media inside and outside the University. They were the first to organize the student cadres to visit “People First, Life First” special exhibition on combating COVID-19 and the first to invite police officers to give the theme lecture on anti-fraud security for undergraduates and postgraduates, made 24 pieces of special exhibition boards, such as Xi Jinping’s thought of rule by law, distributed 500 pieces of leaflet on law-based university management, and launched law publicity through campus broadcast for the first time. To promote the diversified growth of students, they have trained a number of university-level organization leaders, including members of the presidium of Federation of Student Associations and the members of the presidium of Youth Research Association of the University.

Consolidating the education fortress and stimulating the vitality of organization. The School has prepared the Action Plan for the Construction of Excellent Study Style for College Students, carried out learning situation analysis, strictly implemented the system of academic early warning, ask for leave and cancellation after returning to school, attached great importance to selecting and setting up models and giving full play to the power of examples, and stimulated the students’ ability of self-education, self-management and self-service. Through the continuous strengthening of organizational construction, there are a number of outstanding student party branches and student party members, and 10 classes (such as Class 171191) with in failure in examinations: Zhao Miaofeng was selected as one of the top ten student Party members, six Party members including Zhang Xinyue and Bai Jun were selected as outstanding student Party members, 2018 undergraduate Party branch was selected into the list of model Party branches of the University, 2017 undergraduate Party branch was selected as one of the top ten student Party branches of the University, the Party branch of 2018 master candidates in land resources management and the Party branch of 2018 master candidates in public management were selected as university-level advanced student Party branches. In recent three years, 6 Party branches have been awarded University-level Advanced Party Branch, 3 Youth League Branches won the University-level May 4th Red Flag Youth League Branch (Model), and 3 classes have won the University-level Advanced Class Collective Model. The undergraduate and postgraduate student union of our School have been awarded as University-level Model Student Union and Model Postgraduate Student Union for many years, and the Law Association has been awarded as University-level Top Ten Associations and Top Ten Model Associations, and has won the title of Excellent E-class Workstation. The Party branches, Youth League Branches, classes and all kinds of student organizations are thriving and bursting out powerful vitality, and have won 39 honors in  the “May 4th” Recommendation in 2020 .

Enriching cultural atmosphere and boosting cultural and sports activities. The School focuses on creating a family atmosphere and has created a series of exclusive cultural and creative products, to strengthen the students’ sense of belonging to the School. The School also paid great attention to sports and aesthetic education. In 2020, it won the first prize in the singing activity themed “Paying Homage to the Fighters in the Era” (only one in the University) of the University, the first prize in group gymnastics competition, the First Prize in Women’s Team Competition and the Second Prize in Men’s Team Competition in “12·9” Long-distance Races, and the Excellent Organization Unit in the Second Red Classic Reading Contest for College Students of Hubei Province. The School has won awards in the sports meeting, “12·9” Long-distance Races and sports events of the University for many years. High-level athletes have achieved great success in military games, FISU World University Games and various Championships. Our students have become a brilliant scenery of the youth.

At the historical intersection of the Two Century, the student affairs leading group of the School of Public Administration will bear in mind the original intention of education and uphold the development concept of “managing first-class disciplines, cultivating first-class talents and making first-class achievements”, to make contributions to the construction of an internationally renowned research university in the field of Earth Science and the “Outstanding, harmonious and happy” School.
