First Show of National University Lecture Tour of Master Public Speaking in School of Public Administration

(Reported by Wu Bo) In order to further improve the public speaking capability and the comprehensive quality of the undergraduates in this School, invited by the Deputy Secretary of Party Committee Liu Guohua, the Secretary of Party Branch of Speech Association of Hubei Province and the vice-chairman Chenfei gave a special lecture entitled “Master Public Speaking---Improving Your Public Expressive Power in An All-round Way”. The Director of Student Affairs Office Wu Haifeng, the Deputy Secretary of Party Committee of this School Liu Guohua, the Standing Vice-chairman of Speech Association of Hubei Province Cao Hui, Davis and Xiong Yibing from Huatu Education, the Executive Chairman of Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance of Hubei Province Shen Zhongliang, the Secretary of Communist Youth League of China State Railway Investment Construction Group Co., Ltd and other distinguished guests attended the activity. The activity was presided by Student Li Lin and Lu Guanyu and over 400 students attended it.  

Chen Fei, the author of Master Public Speaking is the Vice Chairman of Speech Association of Hubei Province, a member of Committee of Experts of Speech and Eloquence, a judge of the final of National Speech Contest and the Chief Coach of Storyteller Competition of Yangtze River Reading Festival. She has been invited to give special lectures on speech in the Party and government organizations, state-owned enterprises and institutions and universities year in year out, give special lectures on public expression and communication for the leaders in Cadre Training Base of Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee in Wuhan University and has acted as the judge and the coach of the national speech contest. Her new book Master Public Speaking has been widely accepted by the readers since it was sold at the beginning of April. It took the second place on the best selling list of Jingdong within a week after it was sold .

At the beginning, Teacher Chen Fei, started from a short story and stressed the importance of “eloquence”. Chen Fei believed, “To master public speaking is to master every key moment in our life and then master our life”.  

Firstly, Teacher Chen Fei illuminated the definition of public speaking. She thought that the public speaking was a purposeful speech behavior instead of a kind of theatrics. She clarified the difference between speech and telling and recitation and made us deeply understand “what’s speech” through interaction.  

Next, Teacher Chen Fei explained “why the speech should be made” from接two aspects including the purpose and power of the speech. She shared her experience and then drew forth the purpose of speech—Leading the thoughts and spreading the ideas. She believed that speech was for advocating a kind of spirit and delivering a kind of idea instead of competition and award.

In the lecture, Teacher Chen Fei made a comprehensive training and interaction with the students with regard to how to overcome the tension of speech, how to be a better self. Furthermore, she also invited the excellent member representative of Speech Association of Hubei Province, the Secretary of Communist Youth League of China State Railway Investment Construction Group Co., Ltd Hu Jie to share her story about speech on the site.  

Finally, Teacher Chen Fei stressed that speech existed everywhere and it was necessary for the speaker to open his/her mind and independently think for itself so as to touch the audiences deeply. She hoped that the students should pay attention to the speech continuously, transfer their thoughts through speech and record the extraordinary moment of a stodgier so as to improve the consideration and expression in an all-round way.  

The whole speech was vivid and meaningful. It not only transferred the idea, but also instructed the methods; it was not only rigorous in academic exploration, but also warm in the onsite interaction. The enthusiasm of the students was fully aroused by Teacher Chen Fei.    

In the question-answer interaction link, the students enthusiastically spoke and Teacher Chen Fei patiently answered them. The intercommunication further intensified the student’s understanding of the speech.  

The Deputy Secretary of Party Committee Liu Guohua, on behalf of this School, accepted 500 books of Master Public Speaking denoted by Huatu Education Group., Ltd.  

After the donation ceremony, the executive president of Huatu Education图Group Hubei Branch, Xiong Yibin made a speech. He encouraged the students to keep forging ahead, improve the ability, move towards the changes and make every effort to be a modern excellent undergraduate in conformity with the need of the development in the new era.  

After the ending of the activity, the students enthusiastically asked Teacher Chen Fei to put her signature to the donated books.  

Through the training, the students had a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the speech. Their enthusiasm was aroused. They had more scientific method for how to overcome the nervousness, establish the thinking framework, abstract the core viewpoint and mobilize the audiences’ emotion. The training laid a solid foundation for better communication with others in the future and provided a beneficial way to continuously improve their speech ability and comprehensive quality in the practice.
