On the morning of June 29, 2021, at the invitation of Professor Hu Shougeng, Dean of the School of Public Administration, Liu Yansui, academician of The World Academy of Sciences, distinguished professor of Chang Jiang Scholars Program, Research Fellow of Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS, and professor of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivered an academic report on “Land Science, Man-Land System and Rural Revitalization Strategy” to the teachers and students of CUG. The report focused on four aspects, including land use system and its deepening process, frontier fields and key directions of land science, sustainable development and man-land system science, and land consolidation assisting rural revitalization, and also discussed the theoretical methods and practical cases of land science, man-land system and rural revitalization strategy. Zhang Jijun, Secretary of the Party committee of the School of Public Administration presided over the seminar.

Starting from the definition of land, land system and man-land system, Professor Liu Yansui discussed in detail the development process and achievements of land science research, and analyzed the key scientific issues in land science research, such as the comprehensive evaluation and regional practice of land system, the evolution process and driving mechanism, the optimization of three generation space and the carbon sequestration and sink enhancement model. He systematically analyzed the definition, development mode, research topics and practice cases of sustainable development and man-land system science, and further guided us to think about how to organically combine sustainable development strategy with man-land system in combination with major themes such as global poverty reduction, global environmental change, “two carbon” goal, land consolidation for rural revitalization. The questions raised are thought-provoking.

At the seminar, teachers and students had in-depth discussions and exchanges with Research Fellow Liu Yansui on topics of interest.
