A Lecture on Practical Ability for Law Students
(Correspondent: Liu Qi, Du Hengji) At 7 pm on July 9, 2021, the Department of Law Invited Lawyer Liu Hongqang, executive director of Jingsh Law Firm Wuhan Office, to give a lecture on the theme of “Cultivation of the Practical Ability of Law Students”. Hu Zhonghua and Liu Qi, teachers of the Department of Law, and all students of class 171191 who are about to carry out teaching practice attended the lecture.
At the beginning, Mr. Liu asked a question: what practical abilities do you think law students should have? After the students thought and expressed their ideas, he pointed out four abilities that law students should master: 1. observation ability; 2. communication skills; 3. learning ability; 4. writing ability. Then he said that the students should learn to distinguish between pseudo innovation and pseudo learning ability in practical work, and not blindly innovate and worship. He hoped that students would abandon rigid thinking and perfect thinking in practical affairs. In practical work, we should have correct attitude, should learn from cases rather than rigid copying, should be flexible and pursue high standards, but not perfection. Based on his rich practical experience, Mr. Liu introduced the ability requirements under different legal scenes and experienced lessons through handy cases. The lively and interesting narration aroused the students’ enthusiasm for active communication, and the activity had been carried in a warm atmosphere.
Finally, Hu Zhonghua and Liu Qi summarized the lecture and put forward requirements and expectations for the students of Class 171191: “The society is also a university, only when you enter the society, can you become a real legal person.” At the end of the lecture, the students said that the lecture was very helpful to the cultivation of their practical ability and career planning.
