School of Public Administration Holds a Symposium to Celebrate Teachers’ Day in 2021
(Correspondent: Mao Xinle, Wang Yuzhu, Li Jiahui, Liu Guohua) On the occasion of the 37th Teachers’ Day, on the afternoon of September 9, the School held a symposium attended by some retired teachers, in-service teachers, teachers’ representatives who have been commended in recent 5 years, young teachers under 40 years old and student representatives, all members and heads of departments in the B209 conference room of the building of our School. The symposium was presided over by Hu shougeng, Dean of the School.
Firstly, Hu shougeng, Dean of the School, delivered a speech. On behalf of the School, Mr. Hu extended festive greetings to all the teachers, briefly explained why the symposium was held, introduced all the teachers attending the symposium, and expressed gratitude to the teachers of the whole school for their positive contributions to the construction and development of the school over the years.
Secondly, student representatives presented flowers. Student representatives successively presented flowers to Chen Anmin, Yang Lixing, Li Jiangfeng, Zhang Jijun, Wang Zhanqi, Liu Guohua, Cai Huilian, Hu Zhonghua, Liu Qi, Gong Jian and other teacher representatives to express gratitude and blessings.
Thirdly, the teachers attending the symposium jointly expressed how to become an “excellent teacher” and act as an example, so as to better form a long-term mechanism of teaching, scientific research, practice, management, service, culture and organization, and promote students’ all-round growth and development.
Mr. Chen Anmin, the former head of the Department, told the history of the School affectionately and recalled how the administrative management major started its business step by step under difficult conditions. He was pleased with the teacher resources and achievements of the School of Public Management, and said that the achievements of the School were the result of the joint efforts and “struggle” of all teachers and students of the School. He hoped that the young teachers would continue to adhere to the spirit of school motto and build the school better.
Yang Lixing, the former dean, talked about the hardships of the School along the way. Under the condition of lack of platform and resources, the School had experienced many times of separation and integration, but its development experience was still worth learning from, and it was hard to get to today despite all difficulties. At present, we should make full use of the advantages and development potential of the combination of public administration and geosciences, keep up with the development direction of disciplines in the new era, and believe that the School could do better and be stronger.
Li Jiangfeng, the former dean said that an important task of the School in the future would be to “reach A”, which required the School to pay more attention to training young people and build a good platform based on the establishment of laboratories, so that there would be better first-class results. The School should face up to the shortcomings of the Department of Public Administration, cultivate more high-level talents, make concerted efforts in research and teaching, and lay a solid foundation before breaking through. The School should focus on both research and teaching, make up shortcomings, carry forward strengths, and promote the progress of discipline and talent training.
Zhang Jijun, former secretary of the Party Committee, said that the development of the University needed the School of Public Administration, and young teachers should live up to the expectations of the School, learn from outstanding old professors and pass on the good atmosphere, so that the development of the School would be better and better. The School is in the best development period in history, which is inseparable from the hard work of teachers. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, we still need to make concerted efforts and continue to be brilliant!
Wang Zhanqi, the former dean, said that the development and growth of the School was the result of the united struggle of generations. At present, the School has very good development opportunities. As a core discipline, the discipline of public administration covers a wide range, so it is necessary to seize the opportunity and cultivate more high-level talents. Young teachers should strengthen their skills in practice and continue to inherit them, so as to better build first-class disciplines, cultivate first-class talents and produce first-class achievements.
Fourthly, aged teacher representatives passed on and shared their teaching experience.
Hu Zhonghua, a teacher from the Department of Law, said that School should “do something but not do something”. Universities produce knowledge, especially ideological knowledge. To build a first-class school, we should pay attention to the contribution in ideological aspects. The development of school should gather limited strength and make unlimited achievements in limited directions. He proposed three key words in teaching to young teachers: mentality, methods and rules. We should have a clear conscience, understand students’ difficulties, and help them solve problems on this basis, without asking for anything in return. The teaching should adopt the way of taking the retreat as the advance and simmering slowly, and we can't be impatient. On the rules, we should always know that we are teachers and must abide by the legal and moral norms.
Mr. Liu Qi shared his experience on how to teach a good course. Mr. Liu said that he transformed all kinds of information in daily life into classroom materials and paid attention to whether classroom contents could touch students; it was very important to be committed to class content, so as to stimulate students’ interest in class; after-school work was also essential, and teachers should grade themselves and give encouragement and feedback to the next module of teaching. Each teacher should formulate his own teaching methods according to his own characteristics.
Cai Huilian said that it was an unforgettable Teachers’ Day experience for new and aged teachers to get together. She put forward three suggestions for classroom teaching, which were paying attention to the preparation of teaching methods in the process of preparing lessons, enabling students to keep up with the classroom in the course of lectures, and summarizing the highlights after the course, so that the lecture effect would be better over time. There are many excellent teachers in the school, and the development of the college will be better and better.
Mr. Gong Jian said that teachers must be worthy of the posts given by the school, and we must always remember that the mission of a teacher is to preach, teach and solve doubts. In education, we should be kind to students, often talk with them and do our best to help them. Every generation has their own responsibility, as long as we work together, the School will have a bright future!
Fifthly, student representatives spoke. Song Wentian, the monitor of Class 173181, the last executive chairman of the Undergraduate Student Union of the School, and Zhang Chen, a master-PhD program based graduate student of Grade 2021, expressed their deep gratitude to the teachers for their tireless cultivation and irrigation, and expressed their confidence and determination to continue to climb one peak after another with the quality and spirit gained in the school and the entrustment of the teachers.
Sixthly, Mr. Zhang Kuanyu, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School delivered a speech. He said that with the hard work of the older generation, the School has developed rapidly today, and the development history of the school shared by aged teachers made everyone realize that the development was not easy. Young teachers are the present and future of the school, and the backbone of building first-class school, first-class disciplines and first-class majors. They should learn from the older generation, predecessors and old professors that they have devoted themselves to education, love their careers, their posts and their students, focus on teaching and scientific research, and have an inclusive and tolerant attitude towards studying and teaching, so as to jointly push the school forward. We should dig deep into the culture and spirit of our school from its development history, focus on the fundamental task of establishing morality and cultivating people, take the old deans present as examples, inherit the excellent character, carry forward the spirit of hard struggle, take the construction of “new liberal arts” as an opportunity, insist on establishing the school with talents, activating the school by opening up, prospering the school with practical work, strengthening the school through innovation, and strive to build a research-oriented school with deep cross-integration of “law, engineering and management”.
Finally, Dean Hu Shougeng once again expressed his gratitude to all the old deans and teacher representatives who have made outstanding contributions to the development of the school, and wished all the teachers a happy Teachers’ Day and students a successful academic career. He hoped that through the joint efforts of teachers and students in the whole school, the school would further stimulate and release the vitality of internal and external learning, highlight its characteristics and advantages, pursue excellence and strive for quality, and would continue to forge ahead to cultivate compound innovative talents with both Chinese feelings and international vision, being familiar with political thoughts, the concept of the rule of law, management philosophy and management skills, and having both ability and political integrity.
