On the morning of October 1, 2021, the MPA Education Center of the School of Public Administration of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) held the opening ceremony and entrance education for the new MPA graduate students of Grade 2021.
At the opening ceremony, Zhang Kuanyu, secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Public Administration, gave his message to the students from three aspects respectively. First, we should have the whole world in view and pursue excellence. Second, they should do well in management practice and management research, especially in setting personal research content during the course. Third, we should not only look up at the starry sky, but also keep our feet on the ground. As a junior scholar, we should not be afraid of difficulties and setbacks. Secretary Zhang's sage advice won bursts of applause from the students.
Then, Hu Shougeng, Dean of School of Public Administration and Director of MPA Education Center, told the new MPA graduate students about the founding origin and historical changes of China University of Geosciences, and explained in detail the present situation and achievements of MPA Education Center of School of Public Administration. At the same time, he hoped that MPA students could learn from others and pay attention to the importance of interdisciplinary learning. President Hu’s warm speech made MPA new students deeply touched and excited.
Wang Zhong, deputy dean of School of Public Administration and deputy director of MPA Education Center, encouraged the new students to conduct cross-study and cross-learning, and refine their cross-thinking ability in the process of continuous learning and exploration. He also gave a detailed introduction to the MPA training program and encouraged the students to overcome difficulties, study hard, and successfully complete their studies within the study period specified by the university. In addition, he emphasized the importance of academic exchange activities in improving graduate students’ scientific research ability, and encouraged students to participate in the national MPA case contest, annual meeting of public management and other academic exchange activities. Students gave warm applause to Deputy Dean Wang’s passionate speech.
After the opening ceremony, Secretary Zhang Kuankuan, Dean Hu Shougeng, Deputy Dean Wang Zhong, and Zeng Wei and Zhao Pin (class teachers) , took a group photo with the MPA new students of Grade 2021.
In the subsequent entrance education, Mr. Zeng Wei gave a lecture on “Academic Ethics of MPA Postgraduates”, the first lesson for the new MPA Postgraduates of Grade 2021. Mr. Zeng firstly talked about the establishment and development of MPA in China, and emphasized that in order to do academic research, we must first learn to abide by academic norms and strictly adhere to the academic normal bottom line of originality, truthfulness and copyright compliance. In his speech, Mr. Zeng listed the academic misconducts and manifestations that were strictly prohibited in the current academic world, and analyzed the important status and influence of academic ethics in graduate education with the case of "Zhai Tianlin". Lastly, Mr. Zeng taught the students that study and research depended on personal determination. Be sure to keep in mind the motto of "hard work and plain living, seeking truth and being pragmatic". In the whole process of studying, we should be truthful and honest, and learn in a down-to-earth manner. Mr. Zeng's lecture was very insightful, rich and vivid, and the students thanked him for his wonderful speech with warm applause.
Finally, Mr. Pu Mingqiang from the office of MPA Education Center made a concluding speech, advising students to properly handle the conflicts between work, family and study, to do a good job of study planning during the study period, to be familiar with the rules and regulations of postgraduate management, and to master and be familiar with the use of the university's research platform.
The opening of the class means the beginning of a new journey. We wish the students to start a new chapter of their lives with good spirit.
