Department of Law holds An Academic Frontier Lecture on Rule by Law in Digital Economy by Department of Law

[Reported by Zhu Yi] On October 29, 2021, Associate Professor Yin Jiguo, the leader of the master tutor group of economic law in School of Law, South China University of Technology & the director of the J.M. Center, came to Nanwang Forum for Rule of Law at the invitation of Department of Law of this School. This academic lecture was hosted by Professor Xu Ming. Associate Professor Liao Jianqiu, Associate Professor Liu Qi, Distinguished Associate Professor Song Dongdong, and some postgraduates and undergraduates from Department of Law attended the lecture.

 

Associate Professor Yin Jiguo gave a speech on the theme of Legal Regulation of New-type Monopolistic Behaviors in Digital Economy Era, which was structured in six parts: market competition characteristics of digital economy, data monopoly behaviors, algorithm collusion behaviors, internet platform ban (shielding) behaviors, algorithm abuse behaviors and innovation of price analysis framework of anti-monopoly law. Combining with the research of national social science fund projects and academic papers published in core journals such as Modern Law Science and Studies in Law and Business, he systematically explained the frontier theory and the latest academic viewpoints of regulation with digital anti-monopoly law, and shared his preliminary research ideas on the typing of algorithm abuse behaviors and the innovation of price analysis framework of anti-monopoly laws.

 

In the interactive session, the students who participated in the "LawWinLlion Cup" National College Court Debating Competition consulted Professor Yin on the key points, difficulties and doubtful points in Tencent v. ByteDance's antitrust case.

In the talking session, Song Dongdong made a wonderful comment on Associate Professor Yin Jiguo. He pointed out that Professor Yin used the typed normative analysis method to accurately define the new monopolistic behaviors in the digital economy, and we should learn this research method. Liao Jianqiu pointed out that the digital economy was closely related to everyone. Everyone's study, life and consumption all had the shadow of the digital economy. Students should actively pay attention to and study the rule of law in the digital economy. At the same time, he helped the students to refine the cutting-edge topics in the speech process. For example, the identification rules of meaning contact in algorithm collusion, the position of encouraging innovation in the regulation of digital economy competition law, and so on.

This academic lecture activity had stimulated the enthusiasm of the students, cultivated the students' ability to think from various angles and fields, and made the students fully realize that there was no end to learning. They should constantly enrich themselves and feel the importance of integrating knowledge with practice and applying what they have learned, so as to realize the value of law.
