A Competency Improvement Training for Student Elites Held by This School

On November 7, a competence improvement training forstudent elites entitled"Strengthening Faith,Consolidating Foundation and Promoting Advantages" was held by School of Public Administration in No. 2 LectureTheater, No. 1 Teaching Building,West District. Professor Gong Yiming, a national famous teacher, Huang Fei,ExecutiveDeputyDirector of GeneralOffice of a navy department, Professor Guo LanfromMental Health Education Center, Zhu Xiuchang, a postgraduate ofClass Earth’s Surface in Grade 2020 ofSchool of Earth Sciences, Teacher Guo Yufengfrom Student Employment Guidance Office, Wei Shili,formerpresident of Students' Association Union, Liu Conggui, a teacherfromSecurityGuardDepartment, and Liu Guohua, Deputy Secretary ofSchool of Public Administration gave lectures on eight different topics. More than160 members of the Youth League Committee, the student union, the graduate society, the league secretaries and monitors of Grade One and Two, the party secretary ofpostgraduate classes and newly enrolled leaguemembers participated in the training. The training was hosted by Liu Guohua,DeputySecretary of the Party Committee of this School.

At the beginning, Liu Guohua, first introduced the themes, purposes and speakers of the training to the students in detail, and extended sincere wishes to the 69^th birthday ofCUG.

The first lecture was given by Professor Gong Yiming fromSchoolof Earth Sciences. Professor Gong is a national famous teacher, a national model teacher, a famous teacher in Hubei Province, a model teacher of teachers' morality and a young and middle-aged expert with outstanding contributions, and a winner of Chutian Garden Award and May 1^st Labor Medal in Hubei Province. He explained what a universitywas, whatto be read inuniversitylife, how to read it, encouraged students to set new goals, develop better new habits and realize new actions in the new environment. Hehoped that studentsshould firmly establish a correct world outlook, outlook on life and values, know learning, study diligently, enjoy learning, be good at learning, and be honest and trustworthy, be strict with themselves, be kind to others, and be able to endure hardships and losses, pay more attention to improvingtheirinner self-cultivation and become an innovative talents that met the development needs of the new era. After the lecture, he also answered and exchanged students' questions about the troubles ofuniversity life one by one, and wished every student a perfectuniversity time!

The second lecture was given by Huang Fei,ExecutiveDeputyDirector ofGeneralOffice of a navy department. He gave a brief account of his study and work with the title "How toBehave andConductYourself inSociety", and summarized hismanner in combination with his own growth and development experience and shared it withthe students. Director Huang Fei also answered questions for students on the spot on employment, communication skills,qualification of military civilian staff and other issues.

The third lecture was given by Professor Guo Lan from Mental Health Education Center. She described the concept of health, influencing factors of mental health, classification, causes and evaluation criteria of psychological problems, how to identify students' psychological crisis, when to seek psychological help, and how to help psychological counseling, etc. with the title of Caring for Physical and Mental Health and Preventing Psychological Diseases. Professor Guo Lan emphasized the importance of solving psychological problems, encouraged students to learn to make good use of psychological counseling resources, and seek help from psychologists in time when theywere in psychological confusion, so as to have a good psychological state. She also had an interactive communication with students.

The fourth lecture was given by Zhu Xiuchang, apostgraduate ofClass Earth’s Surface in Grade 2020, School of Earth Sciences. He conducted PPT production training. He emphasized that in the process ofPPT production, special attention should be paid to the harmonious matching of color, text and pictures, and some basic operations were demonstrated on the spot. The application of Boolean operation, the use of masks and how to make good use of gradient toolswere emphasized.

At this point, the morning training had come to an end. After a short lunch break, the training continued at 14:30.

The fifth lecture, entitled"Cultivation of Students' Working Thinking Ability",was given byTeacherGuo Yufeng from Student Employment Guidance Office.She introduced three aspects: operation level, thinking level and overall planning level, and described whatwas thinking ability and cultivation of students' working thinking ability. She stressedthat students' thinking ability must be improved, students' cadres should pay attention to what students need, andthen she proposedthe application of "5W2H" seven-question analysis method in students' work so as to help students better arrangeandplan work and activity in the future.

The sixth lecture was given by Wei Shili,formerpresident of Students' Association Union and a student of Class 173182, majoring inpublic utilities management. She talked about her own practice and experience in how to write a newsletter andmake an interview, and shared her three tweets published in China Youth Daily. She focused on the writing structure, writing points, mattersto be focused on, case analysis, preliminary preparation, interview process, interview observation, manuscript writing and other main contents of the task interview. She believed that good journalists neededconstant reading, thinking, learning and improving, and good news manuscripts needed to be revised several times. Only by reading more, thinking more, learning more and writing more, couldyou write high-quality manuscripts.

The seventh lecturewas given by Liu Conggui, thesectionchief of Fire Protection Sectionof Security Guard Department. He gave a lecture on fire safety knowledge with the title "Paying Attention toFireControl andCherishing Lives", focused on the three elements of fire formation, modern fire characteristics, common fire types in student dormitories,safety principle of"the one usingit shall manage it and be responsible forit”,alarm warning, fire fighting equipment identification, how to escape in case of fire, etc. He used a large number of cases to fully demonstrate the harmfulness of fire accidents, asked students to actively understand the knowledge of fire control, and patiently demonstrated the suitablehandlingand using methods of two commonly used fire extinguishers in the campus.

The last training lecture was given by Liu Guohua,DeputySecretary ofthis School. With the title of "Learning, Thinking, and Practicing", he first briefly introduced 69-year’s development process ofCUG and played the original works "69^th Anniversary with Splendid Achievements" produced by the studentsin this School and the short video of "No retreatwas the road to victory" at the founding meeting of Huawei Legion. He said, during the current epidemic prevention and control period, everyone must control his own thoughts, obey the rules and discipline, be strict with himself, strictly observe the leave of absence from school, pay attention to fire prevention, theft prevention and fraud prevention, stay away from bad campus loans, always put improving his academic achievements and comprehensive quality in an important position, and firmly grasp the bottom line of engaging in scientific research and academic ethics. He stressed that every student should focus on tomorrow, go on a journey to take civil examinations wholeheartedly, gradually improve their learning ability, leadership, judgment, decision-making ability and execution ability through various student work platforms, truly fulfill the new responsibilities and responsibilities of the new youth in the new era, and keep up with the pace of historical development to realize a new leap in life.
